List Etiquette
By following a few simple guidelines, you can make your own experience with e-mail lists much better and can ensure that you are communicating appropriately with other list participants. Please maintain high standards of civility and courtesy toward other members of the list.
Here's a few other tips to ensure a useful and ACCESSIBLE list experience:
- Do not set "out of the office" or other vacation messages to post to the list.
- When replying to messages, trim irrelevant or extraneous portions of the message from your reply. In most cases, you should type your response below the quoted portion of the e-mail you are responding to.
- If you subscribe to the DIGEST version of a list, when replying, modify the SUBJECT line of your e-mail to indicate the message you are replying to (e.g. "Re: Alternative text")
- To ensure high accessibility for all users, please send list messages as plain text, not as HTML formatted e-mail.
- Limit attachments that are sent to the list. Attachments larger than 100KB will not be sent. Files sent should be accessible to all users and scanned for viruses. Use this wiki for document creation when possible.
List Tips
- Each list includes a 'tag' in the SUBJECT line to indicate which list the e-mail is coming from. For instance, the subject line for a message from the Telecommunications Subcommittee might be "[teitac-telecom] Voicemail and TTY". This allows you to easily apply a filter in your e-mail program to sort messages by e-mail list. Just add a filter to search for "[teitac-telecom]" in the SUBJECT line and file as you wish.
- You can switch to or from the DIGEST version of a list or temporarily stop delivery of list messages by logging in at the subscription page for each list at http://list.teitac.org/
